Nick grew up in Stoughton and moved to Madison in 1999 to attend the University of Wisconsin. He has lived in Dane County almost his entire life. Yet he still finds new places to explore and discover. Nick spent years working in the BioTech industry but always had a feeling he’d end up in Real Estate. In 2018 he decided to take the leap of faith and become a Realtor. Just last year he bought his first investment property! He loves sports and is quite the Homer for Wisconsin. The Badgers, Bucks, Brewers, and Packers will always be his teams. Nick loves to travel any and everywhere, as there is always something new to see and experience. With his love of driving and seeing new and unique places, real estate was the perfect fit! Nick would be happy to assist you in selling your home or buying your next. Why do you love what you do?
I love being a Realtor because it allows me to tour unique homes and experience the different styles and histories. Every property is a new adventure, and I get to discover something new with each one. Plus, I have a real passion for driving and exploring, and being a Realtor lets me travel all around South Central Wisconsin. I get to explore new neighborhoods, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and see parts of the area I might not have otherwise. It’s a perfect mix of work and personal enjoyment, and each day feels like a new journey.
What hobbies do you have and what do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my friends—it’s always nice to relax and catch up with them. I also like hiking and being out in nature; it’s a great way to clear my mind and get some fresh air. Trying out new restaurants is something I look forward to as well, whether it’s for the food or the atmosphere. Exploring the area is another thing I enjoy, especially when I come across interesting places or hidden spots I haven’t seen before.
What do you like most about living in Wisconsin?
I like living in this area of Wisconsin because it offers the best of both worlds. I can enjoy the convenience and energy of the city, with plenty of restaurants, events, and things to do, but within just a few minutes, I can escape to the peace and quiet of the countryside. Whether it’s the scenic drives, open spaces, or just the slower pace, I love how easy it is to switch between the two. It’s the perfect balance that makes life here feel grounded and versatile.
What makes you proud to be a real estate agent?
I love being a real estate agent because I get to help people achieve something they might have thought was out of reach—finding their dream home and building equity. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the excitement and joy on someone’s face when it all comes together. Being part of that journey, guiding them through the process, and making it a reality is what makes this work so fulfilling for me.
Give an example of how you helped save a deal as a buyer’s agent that might normally have fallen through.
As a buyer’s agent, I always make it a point to double-check every detail, especially during critical steps like reviewing the title company’s paperwork. In one case, something just didn’t feel right when I looked over the closing statement. After going through it carefully, I found that my clients had been overcharged for three separate items and hadn’t been credited for something they were entitled to. Altogether, it was over $1,000! I immediately brought it to the attention of the title company and got it corrected before closing. Not only did this save the deal from potentially falling through, but it also saved my clients a significant amount of money. Moments like that remind me why being thorough is so important!
Give an example of a deal that a buyer was able to get out of because of how you drafted the offer.
During a transaction, we discovered that the property my buyers were interested in was misrepresented by the listing broker. My clients were looking for a single-family home, but the municipality had classified it as “commercial.” This didn’t align with what my clients wanted, so I relied on the contingencies I had included in their offer. These protections allowed us to back out of the deal quickly and move on without any complications. It was a good reminder of why careful attention to detail in drafting an offer is so important.
What previous transaction meant a lot to you and why?
One transaction that meant a lot to me was helping my best friend and his family when they were moving back from Kenosha. It was so important to me that they found the right home and felt supported throughout the process. We found the perfect house for them, but there was a big challenge—the seller refused to pay any commission. Despite that, I made sure the deal came together because, at the end of the day, money isn’t the goal. Seeing my friend and his family happy and settled in their new home made it all worth it.
What are some mistakes to avoid as a home buyer?
One of the biggest mistakes home buyers can make is skipping a home inspection. Even if it’s not a contingency, having an inspection done is essential for your peace of mind. It helps you understand the property’s condition and avoid surprises down the road. Another mistake is not getting pre-approved for a mortgage early on—this can lead to disappointment if you fall in love with a home that’s out of your budget. Lastly, don’t let emotions take over and rush into a decision. It’s important to weigh all the factors and make sure the home truly fits your needs and goals.
