“My name is TJ Butler and I was born in Monroe, WI, but I now reside in Stoughton with my wife, 2 daughters & golden retriever. I have been lucky enough to gain my knack of being able to relate to people & my empathy for others through my 15+ years of experience in Sales, Management & Customer Service. I knew I wanted to go into Real Estate after touring Parade of Homes as a child, as well as the influence of family members also in Real Estate. In my free time I enjoy fishing, golfing, and spending time with my family and cheering on the Packers, Badgers & Cubs. Why do you love what you do?
I love being able to have the freedom of being a stay at home dad while also being able to positively affect people’s life’s by helping them buy and sell real estate and having their best interests in mind through out that process.
What hobbies do you have and what do you do for fun?
Spending time with my wife and kids. We enjoy being outside whenever we can. Whether that’s going fishing, going to Packer games, going to the Zoo, or even just our daily walk to the park.
What do you like most about living in Wisconsin?
As much as we all complain about the weather during each season, I love all 4 seasons Wisconsin has to offer. And of course, all of the great Wisconsin foods; brats, cheesecurds, and Friday night fish frys!
What makes you proud to be a real estate agent?
Buying or selling your home is one of the biggest decisions anyone ever makes, and I really enjoy making the home buying or selling process as easy as possible for my clients.
Give an example of how you helped save a deal as a buyer’s agent that might normally have fallen through.
A couple of years ago, an inspection report came back that the property possibly had an underground fuel tank on the property. My clients really wanted the property but the fuel tank was a no go. I spent the next few days calling everyone in the southern Wisconsin area to find someone willing to go check this out. And finally I was able to reach someone out of Madison to drive down to the stateline and inspect what was possibly a buried fuel tank. Fortunately and eventually, they were able to determine the pipe sticking up through the concrete was just a unique pipe that was purposely stuck in the concrete for a flag pole. My buyers were relieved and had smooth and successful closing.
Give an example of a deal that a buyer was able to get out of because of how you drafted the offer.
I’ve never had a buyer who wanted to get out of a deal.
What previous transaction meant a lot to you and why?
Being able to help first time home buyers is always very rewarding seeing the joy on their face after buying their new home.
What are some mistakes to avoid as a home buyer?
Not getting pre-approved is a big one. Also, make sure you work with a buyer’s agent. The seller is being represented by the listing agent, and the buyer’s agent is their to be in the buyer’s corner. It’s also a good idea to have a buyer consultation early so your agent can walk you through and put your mind at ease about the upcoming process and can answer any questions you may have.
